5 Axis CNC Machining Advantage
Manufacturing complex parts.
5-axis machining center with multi-axis simultaneous operation could machine complex surfaces and geometries.
Save cost and time.
Compared with 3-axis lathes, 5-axis machining centers can work continuously and shape in one operation without changing fixtures, so it can save a lot of time and cost.
High Accuracy.
Five-axis machining does not require special fixtures, which can avoid multiple clamping and thus improve accuracy.
The 5 Axis CNC Machining Material
To meet the needs of different industries, we offer 5-axis machining services for both simple and complex parts and handpieces with metal and plastic materials, such as aluminum, copper, Copper Alloys, Stainless steel, titanium, Tungsten, PP, PTFE, and so on. We will choose the most suitable machining method according to the characteristics of the material and the use and shape of the product. We try to save costs for our customers as much as possible.
The industries benefiting from 5-axis machining
5-axis CNC machining can serve all industries. However, considering the cost factor, some industry products could use 4-axis or 3+2-axis to machine. But there are some industries where cost is not the first choice, and it is more about accuracy and surface finish. This is when five-axis CNC machining shows its advantage.
The following industries benefit the most from 5-axis machining.
Aerospace Parts
Aerospace parts need to maintain high precision and accuracy to ensure the function, fit and reliability of each part so that flight safety can be ensured.
Medical Devices
Medical parts require high tolerances and a perfect surface finish to eliminate patient discomfort. 5-axis machining is compatible with the medical industry.
Semiconductor
Semiconductors are essential components in electronic devices.CNC machining can process materials that conduct electricity semiconductors.
Optical Equipment
Because of the precision of an optical component, its machining requires the highest accuracy. 5-axis CNC machines allow precise milling.

The overview to the 5axis CNC machining
There are 2 types of 5-axis machining methods as below:
- 3+2 fixed position machining
- 5-axis simultaneous machining
The 5-axis has a five-axis as in the photo below
5-axis simultaneous operation means that there are at least five axes (three linear and two rotaries) on a machine tool, which can be controlled by a computer numerical control (CNC) system for simultaneous coordinated movements for manufacturing.
The cutting tool is first fixed in an inclined position on two rotary axes, and then the feed axes X, Y, and Z are moved for machining. This machine is also called five axes fixed position machining machine.
- Different machine operation methods.
- The accuracy of processed products is different.
- The processing cost is different.
- Applicable to different industries.
- The use of different tools.
- The use of different fixtures.
- The cost is not the same.
- A shorter and stronger tool can be used.
- The tool can be angled to the surface and the spindle head can be extended lower and closer to the workpiece.
- The tool travels a shorter distance.
- Fewer program codes.
Complex parts may require many oblique views to cover the entire part, but this will result in overlapping tool paths and increased machining time.
- Compared to 3+2 positioning, the spindle is less rigid.
- In some cases, a 5-axis solution is not suitable, such as when the tool is too short or the tool holder is so large that vibration cannot be avoided at any tilt angle.
